Kansas City, Missouri

After the holidays were over, we were ready to get back out on the road.  Kansas City would be the first event of 2008.  Everyone was tired of just sitting around, eating leftovers and watching football.  It was time to get back to racing.  A few changes have been made since we went to Rochester.  Patrick Java has lost interest in our Arenacross effort and rumor has it that he is getting married.   Congratulations and good luck to Patrick.  So we've added a new member to our team.  His name is Max Jordan and he is from Katy, Texas.  He'll be aboard a KX250F flying the DBM colors.  In addition to Max, we welcome Cory Smith from Kansas City.  Cory will continue to ride his Suzuki, but he is sharing expenses with us on the road.

Brock and Max came down from Tulsa on New Year's day and we hustled around and got everything loaded up for the trip to KC.  I made some modifications to the trailer so that it would serve us better.  Chris came on over from Memphis and we planned to meet up with Cory in KC.  When Cory and Brock headed home after Rochester, Cory's old reliable van puked up it's transmission in Mena.  The plan was to pick it up on the way back on Monday.  Lee Taylor from Arkadelphia hooked up with us and we were off.  One more stop to make in Conway to pick up Kevin Gardner.  We headed North once again, this time with a full trailer.

We got to Kemper Arena and set up shop.  All the boys worked "move in" to make a little cash.  Chris got selected for a TV interview and elevated to "Rockstar" status on the team.  Lee and Kevin were drafted to be mechanics for the team.

We checked out the Isle of Capri casino on Friday night.  Pam showed us how it was done as she won $400 on the slots.  I sucked.

I made contact with an old classmate from Hot Springs that lives in Kansas City.  His name is Hugh Mills and he came out to the arena for a good visit.  You can find his book, "Low Level Hell" on the web.

Brock and Max were mounting some new rubber for the bikes and got their picture in the Kansas City Star.

The racing at Kansas City was good and all of the Team riders made it to the night show.  But that's where it stopped.  Nobody made a main and we were done for the night.  The highlight of the evening was that Brock, Max and Chris all crashed on the landing of the catapult.   Brock rode his crash out, Max jammed his knee and Chris landed on his shoulder.   On Sunday, Brock and Cory tried out the Open Expert class, while Max and Chris tried to heal up.

We stopped at Terrible's Casino on the way home and pigged out on their buffet.  Pam and I tried their games, but didn't have any luck.   We left the Kansas City area around 9pm and got home about noon on Monday.  Brock and Cory took Tara's truck and and picked up Cory's van ahead of us since we had to go back through Conway.  The boys did some riding on Tuesday. Then it was bike and motorhome cleanup and we had to be in Dallas on Thursday.
